Volt Berlin has nominated Rainer Seider as its candidate for the upcoming elections to the Abgeordnetenhaus von Berlin (Berlin State Assembly), scheduled for 20 September. The nomination was confirmed by the party’s General Members Assembly, underscoring Volt’s growing presence in Berlin’s political landscape.
Founded as Europe’s first pan-European political party, Volt Europa promotes a policy agenda centered on European integration, individual freedom, sustainability, and innovation. The party positions itself as pragmatic and progressive, seeking to modernize governance and strengthen democratic participation across Europe.
A European Policy Vision for Berlin
Volt’s strategic vision frames Berlin as a forward-looking European metropolis, combining economic competitiveness with social inclusion, modern digital administration, environmental sustainability, and equal opportunities. The party argues that Berlin must continue to reinvent itself to remain resilient and globally connected in an increasingly competitive European context.
Strong Links to Business and Innovation Ecosystems
Volt has established notable links within Germany’s business community, particularly in Berlin. Through the #WirSindPartei initiative, 20 out of 54 prominent business leaders—approximately 37 percent—are members of Volt, reflecting the party’s emphasis on innovation-driven economic policy and collaboration with the private sector.
Experience and Policy Expertise
Rainer Seider brings three decades of professional experience in Berlin, with expertise spanning:
• European and international relations
• Economic and innovation policy
• Startup and entrepreneurship ecosystems
• Culture and education policy
• Diversity and inclusion
• Digital public administration
He has also highlighted his intention to leverage extensive networks across business, public administration, and international innovation communities, including AsiaBerlin, to support evidence-based policymaking.
Positioning Against Political Polarisation
In outlining his candidacy, Seider emphasized the need for global and European perspectives in local governance. He warned that declining trust in established parties risks increasing political fragmentation and polarization. Volt, he argues, offers a credible centrist alternative, rooted in democratic values and professional expertise rather than traditional party structures.
Toward a New Political Centre
Volt Berlin aims to secure representation in the Abgeordnetenhaus to help shape a new liberal, ecological, and social political centre—first in Berlin, and ultimately contributing to policy debates at the national and European levels.
Calling for civic engagement, Seider invited citizens and stakeholders to support Volt’s commitment to an innovative, sustainable, and European-oriented future for Berlin and Germany. Interested parties may contact him directly at [email protected].
